Donna Hendry

Realistic Medicine Clinical Lead / Specialist Paramedic

I am currently a Specialist Paramedic Practitioner in Urgent and Emergency care working in Fife.  Most of my 25 years of service with the Scottish Ambulance Service involves providing front line urgent and emergency care and clinical leadership while working as a Team Leader.  Most recently, as a Specialist Paramedic working alongside our NHS partners in Out of Hours Primary Care and in GP practices proactively developing the Specialist Paramedic role in response to changes in healthcare needs and advances in practice.

I provide a clinical service to patients including enhanced patient assessment, clinical consultation and patient management plans, which incorporates the appropriate administration and issue of medicines, referral and discharge, in-line with clinical guidelines and evidence based practice.  I proactively work toward developing the Specialist Paramedic role in response to changes in healthcare needs, to improve our service delivery.

I am hard working and driven by a genuine care for patients who deserve the best care that we can give them.   I have recently been appointed SAS National Lead for Realistic medicine and plan to use my 25 years SAS experience to drive this initiative forward to benefit the patients who use our services.

The SAS are committed to ensuring that our patients are given the most appropriate care when and where they need it, in line with the Chief Medical Officer’s realistic medicines initiative and working towards our 2020 vision.
